Best Practices - Running a Trivia Game
Updated over 6 months ago

Here's a quick guide on best practices when running a Trivia Game

What type of game should you choose?

We have 6 different game types that will all serve a different strategy for your event.

The first thing to do is ask yourself: How are my players going to answer the questions?

  • On their device? (Computer, phone, tablet)

  • On a booth?

Second: Are all players answering the same questions at the same time? Should they play at their own pace?

  • If they are all answering the same question at the same time, you'll want to choose either Live Trivia or Elimination

  • If you'd like the game to run for a set amount of time and have players answer at their own pace, we have these game types: Quiz, Countdown Quiz, Three Strikes, and 2-minute Drill

Are you collecting Data?

What type of information are you capturing from players? Navigate to Trivia Home and click the Edit button on your game to find your Data Collection Settings. Here's what you should take into consideration:

  • Is it a casual game? You'll want to collect Names only

  • Do you want to gather contact information? Choose Lead Capture

Giving access to your players

How are players accessing the game?

Head over to Trivia Home > Edit and look for the General section:

  • If they're walking up to a tablet on a booth or kiosk, you'll want to select Tablet or iPad Kiosk. Click here for a guide on how to set it up.

  • If you're sending a link to the game or displaying a QR Code, select Mobile/Web.

If you're printing out a QR Code or sending a game link to your players, make sure you don't make any changes to your game's name.

Displaying the Leaderboard

Leaderboards keep your games competitive and players engaged. Here are some tips from other customers who run successful games:

  • For Live Trivia on virtual calls: Share the Leaderboard tab on your browser, make sure it's set to be displayed in Full Screen

  • For in-person events: Set up a monitor or projector with the Leaderboard tab in Full Screen

  • Embedding into a website? You can also embed your game into a website and make the leaderboard available to anyone who visits.
