How do I set up and manage QR Code challenges in my APG game?

Updated yesterday

Quick Answer

To set up a QR code that awards points, go to Challenges → Add, choose Scanning a QR, select Check-In, and follow the wizard to create your challenge. Players earn points the first time they scan the QR code. If they scan it again, they will see a “Challenge Already Completed” message.

What Happens If You Change Points?

Point updates only affect future completions.
Previously completed scans will not update retroactively.

How Do I Get the QR Code for My Challenge?

There are two ways to download QR codes:

Option 1: Download Individual QR Code

  1. Go to Challenges.

  2. Click Get QR Code next to the challenge name.

Option 2: Download All QR Codes

  1. Go to Links.

  2. Click Download all QR Code challenges.

QR codes are generated at 300 x 300 pixels.

Can I Print the QR Code in a Different Color?

Yes.

You can print the QR code in a color other than black, as long as there is strong contrast between the code and the background.

How QR Code Scanning Works

  • Players earn points only the first time they scan a QR code.

  • If scanned again, they see “Challenge Already Completed.”

  • Challenges cannot be completed more than once.

  • QR codes can be scanned before registration.

    • If a player is not registered, scanning will trigger the registration and onboarding flow.

    • After registering, they receive their points automatically.

QR codes are one way players engage with the game.
The other engagement method is In-App challenges.

Can I Use the Same QR Code for Multiple Events?

Yes.
You can reuse the same QR code across multiple events as long as:

  • The challenge is active.

  • The game is active.

If you copy the game, new QR codes are created automatically.

Can I Add QR Codes During an Event?

Yes.
You can add QR code challenges at any time. They will work immediately as long as:

  • The challenge is active.

  • The game is active.

Players may need to refresh if they already have the app open.

How Do I Track Who Scanned a QR Code?

QR scans count as challenge completions.

To see who completed the challenge:

  1. Go to your Dashboard.

  2. Click the number of Participants.

  3. Review the list of player activity.

  4. Click Download Players to export the data to Excel.

When Do QR Codes Stop Working?

A QR code will not work if:

  • The challenge is deleted

  • The challenge is turned off

  • The game is turned Offline

QR codes do not “expire,” but they become inactive if the challenge or game is disabled.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

“Challenge Already Completed” Message

This means the player has already scanned that QR code and earned the points.
Challenges cannot be completed more than once.

Players Aren’t Getting Points

  • Confirm the challenge is active.

  • Confirm the game is Online.

  • Verify the challenge has points assigned.

QR Code Won’t Scan

  • Ensure the image is clear and not distorted.

  • Maintain strong contrast when printing in color.

  • Avoid resizing below readable dimensions.

Points Didn’t Update After Editing

Point changes only affect future scans, not past completions.
