Follow this step-by-step guide to setup an online trivia game in rounds where players play in teams.
Set up a Live Trivia Game
Follow the SocialPoint Wizard to setup your game. Be sure to select Live Trivia when setting up your game. Follow these instructions
Hot Tip: If you have already set up a different game type, follow the instructions in this article to switch to a Live trivia game.
Allow Groups to Pick a Team Name
Change the label on your trivia game to say "Pick a fun team name". Here's how you do it.
Click on the Edit button on your game
2. Choose Game Setup
3. Go to Data Collection.
4. Change the player name label to "Please Enter a Fun Team Name"
Organize Your Questions Into Rounds
In SocialPoint, a category is equal to a round. So all of the questions in a single category will appear in a round.
You'll want to divide the game's questions into categories. Here's how:
3. Set the Category for your Questions
If you add questions via excel, be sure to set the category when you upload the questions. On the other hand, you can edit the question category for any questions that are already in your game.
Set up the Game for Round GamePlay
Most Round games only show the leaderboard at the end of the game. In SocialPoint this would be at the end of the category.
Click Play and then Launch a new game!
2. Click on Edit Setttings to access the game settings.
3. Set the leaderboard to show "At the end of the category"
Set up and Manage Breakout Rooms
If you are putting players into breakout rooms, then we suggest that you assign a team captain to each team.
Assign a Team Captain to each Breakout Room
Assign a team captain to each break out room to help guide the conversation and manage the game. Team captains should have a limited role to not feel overwhelmed.
Here's what you need them to do:
Choose a Team Name for the group
Submit answers in the player app
Share their screen so all group members can see the questions and answer choices.
Download and share our Team Captain Guide to help communicate these responsibilities.
Plan the Breakout Times
Do you have a limited time for the activity? You'll want to plan how long will participants be sent to breakout rooms.
Most people run an entire round in breakout rooms.
Groups re-join the main video conference for you to reveal the leaderboard.
Have one or two people checkin on the breakout rooms will ensure that any issues are handled timely and fairly for all players.
Assign Players to Breakout Rooms
Zoom has a very helpful article on managing breakout rooms.
Running The Game In Rounds with Breakouts
You will want to practice your game to get used to the SocialPoint game controls and game play flow. Refer to the instructions on Hosting Your Game for more information
Send the players into Breakout Rooms to Pick a Team name. Ask the Team Captain to submit the team name in SocialPoint.
Watch for teams to submit team names. Names will appear on the leaderboard and you will see how many teams are in the game in the Total Players column.
Once your Teams have joined, click Start Game to begin. (Some groups bring everyone back for last minute instructions, some just start playing. It's a matter of preference.)
When you reach the end of a category, the leaderboard will appear. The current round is now over.
Pause the game (if running on AutoPlay)
Bring the groups back to the main room.
Show the scores and review the leaderboard.
Tell the players the next category.
Send the groups back into the breakout rooms.
4. Rinse and repeat until you have finished all question categories (rounds) or run out of time.
Declare a winner
After you've run through all questions or met your session's objective:
Click the End Game button to show the Leaderboard and final scores for all players or teams.
Gather everyone together to announce the game's winners.
