There are two ways of organizing your teams and running the game. Here's a description of how they both work and the tools at your disposal to run them.
Scoring as Individuals
This setup requires all teams to be registered in advance, so you'll want to communicate with your players before the game is rolled out. This is how it works:
All players select their team when logging in to the game
All players get to answer questions on their own devices
Individual scores get added to the team's overall score (see scoring methodology)
Team Scores are visible on the leaderboard for everyone to see
So, what do you need to run this type of game?
Be sure to choose Live Trivia or Elimination Game during the setup wizard
After setting up your game, head over to Trivia > Configurations and click on your game's name
Toggle Team Game on under the General section and add your team names in the following format: ["Team 1","Team 2","Team 3"]
Select your scoring methodology and click on Update
Click the Game Links button and open up the Player App link
Send the link to your players and wait for them to log in to start the game (more on running a live game here)
Scoring as a Group (breakout rooms)
This setup requires at least two people working together to make sure it runs smoothly. You'll want someone managing the backend (switching between questions, leaderboard, and results screens) and hosting the game, and a second person helping out with checking in on breakout rooms. This is how it works:
All teams select one person to be the leader
After each question is read, teams are sent to breakout rooms to discuss the possible answer
Each team leader submits an answer for their team
Team scores are visible on the leaderboard for everyone to see
So, what do you need to run this type of game?
Be sure to choose Live Trivia or Elimination Game during the setup wizard
After setting up your game, click the Game Links button and look for the Player App
Send the link to your team leaders and start the game.
As team leaders log in, instruct them to use their team's name as the login information
We recommend manually moving through the questions so players have enough time to discuss the answers
The host reads out the questions to all participants, after which they are sent to breakout rooms to discuss the possible answers.
Team leaders submit their team's answer, as staff members check in on each breakout room to make sure all players understand the questions and are working together to solve them
All participants are taken back to the main conversation room and the results are displayed, as well as the leaderboard
Rinse and repeat until all questions have been answered or the meeting's goals achieved
