Quick Answer

You can limit how many times a player can play a Self-Paced Trivia game by going to Manage → Setup → Game Options and turning on “Limit Number of Game Plays.” The limit is enforced by email address, and the leaderboard will display each player’s best score only.

When should I use this?

Use this setting if:

  • You are running a Self-Paced Trivia game.

  • You want players to replay the game — but not unlimited times.

  • You want to prevent one person from dominating the leaderboard by playing 20+ times.

  • You want the leaderboard to show each player only once (based on their best score).

This feature is available on all Self-Paced Trivia games.
It is not available for Live Trivia, since players can only play each live session once.

Why is limiting game plays important?

In Self-Paced Trivia, players can replay the game to improve their score.

While replaying encourages engagement, unlimited replays can:

  • Give one person too many chances to climb the leaderboard

  • Create an unfair competitive advantage

  • Inflate leaderboard rankings

When multiple gameplays are allowed:

  • The leaderboard shows the player’s best effort

  • The same person will not appear multiple times

Most customers set the limit between 3–5 plays. In our experience:

  • Most players play 1–3 times

  • A limit of 5 provides a healthy balance of engagement and fairness

How do I limit the number of game plays?

  1. Go to your Trivia game.

  2. Click Manage.

  3. Click Setup.

  4. Select Game Options.

  5. Find the field labeled “Limit Number of Game Plays:”

  6. Choose:

    • Yes – to set a limit

    • No – for unlimited plays

  7. If you selected Yes, enter the number of allowed game plays.

  8. Click Update.

Your limit will now be active.

How the limit works

  • The limit is enforced by email address.

  • Once a player reaches the maximum number of allowed plays, they will not be allowed to play again.

  • The leaderboard will display the player’s highest score across all allowed gameplays.

If the game is reset for a new event or a new day:

  • Players can play again after the reset.

  • If the leaderboard is not reset, the player will not be able to play again.

Common Questions & Troubleshooting

Why can’t a player play again?

If a player cannot start the game again, they have likely:

  • Reached the maximum number of allowed game plays for their email address.

Does this work for Name-only registration?

No. The limit is strictly enforced by email address.

Why isn’t this option available in Live Trivia?

Live Trivia only allows one gameplay per session, so a limit is not needed.

Will a player appear multiple times on the leaderboard?

No. Even if multiple plays are allowed, the leaderboard displays only the player’s best effort.
