Quick Answer
To configure the Total Number of Questions, go to Trivia Home → Manage → Setup → Game Options and enter the number in the Total Number of Questions field.
The number you enter must not exceed the number of questions in your question bank, or players will see this error when they try to play: Error! Please add more questions before playing the game.
This applies to Self-Paced Trivia games only.
Where to Set the Total Number of Questions
Follow these steps:
Go to Trivia Home.
Click Manage next to your game.
Click the Setup tab.
Scroll to the Game Options section.
Locate the field labeled Total Number of Questions.
Enter the desired number.
Click Save.
Important Rules to Know
1. The total cannot exceed your question bank
If you set the Total Number of Questions higher than the number of questions available in your question bank:
The backend will allow you to save.
However, when a player tries to start the game, they will see:
Error! Please add more questions before playing the game.
There is no warning in the admin area, so you must manually confirm the question count.
2. You must have at least one question
Minimum required: 1 question
There is no system-enforced minimum beyond that.
We recommend 6–8 questions for Countdown-style games.
3. How Shuffle Works
If Shuffle is turned ON:
The system randomly pulls from all available questions.
If your Total Number of Questions equals your full question bank, all questions will be used (just in randomized order).
3. Live Trivia vs. Self-Paced Trivia
Self-Paced Trivia: This setting matters and can trigger the error.
Live Trivia: This setting does not apply. The host controls how many questions are asked during the live session.
Can I change the number after the game starts?
Yes — but with limitations.
You can update the Total Number of Questions at any time in the Setup area.
However:
If a player is currently playing, their game has already downloaded to their mobile device.
Changes will not affect that active session.
The player must reload and restart the game for the new question total to apply.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
“My game says I don’t have any questions.”
This usually means:
The Total Number of Questions is higher than your available question bank.
Or you accidentally removed questions after setting the total.
Fix:
Count how many questions are in your question bank.
Go to Setup → Game Options.
Lower the Total Number of Questions to match.
Save and reload the game.
“Game won’t start.”
If players see:
Error! Please add more questions before playing the game.
You likely set the total higher than the available questions.
Lower the total or add more questions to your question bank.
“We added questions, but players still get the error.”
Have players:
Fully close the browser.
Reload the Player Link.
Restart the game session.
Because Self-Paced games download to the device, players must restart for changes to apply.
