Switching between Game types

Did you change your mind and want to switch Trivia game types? This article shows you how to do that.

Updated over a week ago

Quick Answer

You cannot directly switch a Trivia game from one game type (Live, Self-Paced, Three Strikes, etc.) to another. To change game types, you must turn the game offline, delete the current configuration, and create a new game using the Game Setup Wizard.

Why You Cannot Switch Game Types

Game types are locked once a Trivia game is created. The system does not allow converting a Live game into a Self-Paced game or vice versa.

To change the format, you must delete the current configuration and create a new one.

Step-by-Step: Switch to a Different Game Type

Turn off the game

Before deleting your game, make sure no one is playing.

  1. Go to Trivia Home.

  2. Click Manage/Play next to your game.

  3. Open the Game Manager tab.

  4. Click the Online button under Status.

  5. The button should switch to Offline

Step 2: Delete the Game Configuration

  1. Return to Trivia > Edit.

  2. Click the red Delete button.

  3. Click Delete Configuration in the confirmation popup.

Step 3: Create a New Game

  1. Click the blue Add button.

  2. The Game Setup Wizard will open.

  3. Select your new game type (Live, Self-Paced, Three Strikes, etc.).

  4. Complete setup and save.

What Happens Next

  • Your old configuration is permanently deleted.

  • Questions may need to be reassigned depending on your setup.

  • You can create a new game immediately.

  • You can repeat this process anytime during your subscription.

Common Issues

I don’t see the Offline button

Make sure you are inside Manage/Play > Game Manager.

I already deleted my configuration and don’t see the Wizard

Click the blue Add button on the Trivia Home page. If you have another similar game, you might want to copy it as a starting point to save time rebuilding everything from scratch.

Will this delete my questions?
