Quick Answer
In standard Attendee Participation Games (APG), the PIN requirement cannot be removed. The PIN is a built-in security feature used to confirm a participant’s identity when returning on a different device, after clearing cache, or when using private browsing.
However, if you enable Hide Challenges List, the experience changes to a QR-scan-only mode, and participants will not be prompted for a PIN — but they also will not see their task list, progress, or challenge details.
When Is the PIN Required?
Participants are asked to enter their PIN when they:
Return to the game on a different device
Clear their browser cache or cookies
Use private/incognito browsing mode
Switch browsers
The PIN ensures the participant reconnects to their original profile and prevents duplicate registrations.
The PIN is not required during initial registration.
Why Can’t the PIN Be Disabled?
The PIN protects:
Leaderboard accuracy
Participant identity
Duplicate registrations
Unauthorized access to another player’s profile
Because this is a core security feature, there is no setting to simply “turn off” the PIN in a standard APG configuration.
Exception: Using "Hide Challenges List"
If you enable Hide Challenges List, the game experience changes:
Participants do not see a list of tasks
Participants do not see progress tracking
The game becomes QR-scan-based only
Participants scan QR codes to earn points
In this mode, the login experience does not require a returning PIN because players are not accessing a full challenge dashboard.
⚠️ Important: This fundamentally changes how the game works. Only use this option if you want a scan-only experience.
What Happens If a Participant Doesn’t Know Their PIN?
If a participant forgets their PIN:
They may need to re-register.
The system may treat them as a new participant.
Admins may need to remove duplicate entries if necessary.
Encourage participants to:
Use the same device throughout the event
Avoid private browsing
Avoid clearing browser data during gameplay
Common Questions
Is the PIN required the first time someone joins?
No. The PIN is only required when returning under certain conditions.
Why are my attendees being asked for a PIN again?
This usually happens because they:
Switched devices
Cleared cache
Used private browsing mode
Can I remove the PIN but keep the challenge list visible?
No. The PIN-free experience is only possible when using Hide Challenges List, which removes the challenge dashboard and progress view.
